Nearing Completion

Port Orange Solar Field 008 (Large)

The City of Port Orange:  Wellfield Solar Energy Project

H. J. High is nearing completion on the 25kw Wellfield Solar Energy Program for the City of Port Orange.  In conjunction with Tri City Electric, H. J. High designed the ground-mounted system placed on a quarter of an acre within a heavily forested area.  This is what the city uses for wells to supply potable water to its residents.  Upon completion, the solar panels will power the pumps used to access the underground water.  We have installed a bi-directional electrical meter to return power to the electrical grid when the pumps are not in use.

We are using 240-watt solar modules from SolarWorld.  SolarWorld guarantees, over 25 years, that the modules’ performance will not decrease by more than .7% per year.  This distinction is one reason why the panels are regularly ranked #1 by Photon Magazine (an industry leading solar power magazine).

The City of Port Orange designated Kenny Ho as the project manager for the project – the first of its kind for the city.  All materials used in the project were purchased within the Buy American limits required by the federal government.  Upon completion, the city will be able to monitor the electrical output of the system remotely from any computer.

H. J. High is proud to be completing the project approximately one month ahead of schedule and within the budget.
